Job Description

  • Under the direction of the Supervisor of Engineering, develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and expansion of the electric overhead and underground distribution systems. Develop specifications for material purchases and construction standards.
  • Assist the Supervisor of Engineering with developing project designs by attending pre-construction conferences, meeting with developers and builders, visiting construction sites, and performing surveying, staking, and other related duties.
  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, ordinances, etc. of CIP projects and advise developers and contractors regarding technical requirements.
  • Under the direction of the Supervisor of Engineering, prepare and interpret one-line diagrams; control schematics; as-built documents; vendor drawings; contracts; service agreements; and other records or documents pertaining to systems projects and programs, system modifications or upgrades, and such other areas as assigned.
  • Supply sag and tension project data by calculating sag and tension from manufacturers S&T charts.
  • Assist with responding to emergency conditions and restoring the distribution system to normal operation. Prepare studies, reports and recommendations pertaining to the overall electric distribution system operation.
  • Read and interpret operating and maintenance reports resulting from operations and maintenance systems and recommend system improvements.
  • Under the direction of the Supervisor of Engineering, calculate customer loads for sizing transformer banks and services. Perform protection and coordination studies for fuses, sectionalizing devices, and re-closers.
  • Under the direction of the Supervisor of Engineering, coordinate electrical distribution system, street lighting and traffic signal activities with other City departments, and with outside agencies.
Education Requirement:
A Bachelor’s of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering is required, preferably with power engineering emphasis. 
Experience Requirement:
Successful candidate must possess two (2) years to four (4) years of related work experience. 
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
The ability to learn complex design methods is required.The ability to develop good project management skills is required.Successful candidate must have good verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills as well as technical writing capabilities.Successful candidate must possess the ability to work and perform essential job responsibilities including operating computers, instruments, and associated programs including AutoCAD, Adobe, and MS Office products, as well as other applicable software applications and systems as assigned.Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
