Job Description

Job Summary:
The Process Improvement Engineer is responsible for applying engineering principles and techniques to determine the most effective and efficient ways to improve manufacturing processes. Functions performed include determining work content, work balance, material flow, and material presentation necessary to maximize quality, productivity, and delivery. Engineers will work closely with management, engineering, quality, scheduling, and other departments as necessary. The position will assist in leading the efforts to coach and implement lean methodologies to frontline supervision.

Job Responsibilities:

1. High self-motivation – ability to work independently on multiple projects

2. High attention to detail and organization – ability to execute with minimal supervision (occasional schedule flexibility may be necessary)

3. Develop and utilize time studies to understand inefficiencies and work to improve processes

4. Determine and work to reduce and eliminate waste (non-value added activities)

5. Ability to write work instructions and/or procedures

6. Design optimal layouts for product/material flow, and to meet customer capacity (working closely with manufacturing engineering and management)

7. Educate others on Lean Methodologies and the importance of eliminating waste

8. Implement and support the 5S program

9. Ability to work within and lead project teams, Kaizen events, etc.

10. Write and present cost analysis proposals to management

11. Write and communicate “request for quotes” with vendors, and work collaboratively with all parties to implement new equipment solutions

12. Create detailed process flow diagrams

13. Work with suppliers to improve performance and reduce inventories in the value chain

14. Utilize software tools to implement process improvements

15. Design and work with fabricators to implement robust solutions (ie, material handling, equipment, etc.)

16. Awareness and adherence to all Corporate & Site Policies (environmental, health, safety/PPE, people, etc.)

17. Keeping a clean and organized work area

18. Any other duties as required


1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Industrial or Mechanical preferred), or equivalent experience

2. 1-3 years experience working in a manufacturing environment

3. Proven experience with Lean Methodologies, both application and implementation

4. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present to large groups

5. Ability to read/interpret documents (engineering drawings, maintenance instructions, process procedures, etc.)

6. Knowledge of ergonomic principles

7. Experience working with MS Office and CAD software

Physical Requirements:

1. General: Job may require physical work on the production floor.

2. Standing/Walking: Job may require standing and walking throughout an entire shift.

3. Lifting/ Carrying: Job may require lifting and stacking of material or product. Maximum required individual lifting limit is forty-five (45 pounds).

4. Pushing and Pulling: Job may require moving of carts. Maximum required for an individual is 50lbs
